PART 7 — Surrender: Saying, “Yes, Lord

Introduction: Salvation Is Not Complete Without Surrender
Repentance turns from sin. Faith turns to Christ. Baptism declares new life. But **surrender** is the daily posture of the heart that proves repentance and faith are real. Surrender is not emotional. It is not a moment. It is not a phrase spoken once at an altar. Surrender is a **lifestyle** — the continual disposition of a heart that no longer belongs to itself. It Is the echo of Jesus’ words in Gethsemane:
📖 **“Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” — Luke 22:42**
To say **“Yes, Lord”** is to take your hands off the throne of your own life and yield it entirely to Christ.
- Surrender Is the Fruit of Genuine Repentance and Faith
Repentance confronts our sin. Faith embraces Christ. Surrender submits to His authority. If repentance is the turning and faith is the trusting, **surrender is the yielding.** Surrender says:
- “Your Word over my opinions.”
- “Your will over my desires.”
- “Your way over my instincts.”
- “Your truth over my feelings.”
- “Your commands over my convenience.”
This is why Jesus declared:
📖 **“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46**
A faith that does not surrender is not saving faith. A confession that does not obey is not genuine conversion. Surrender is not perfection — But direction.
- Surrender Is the Recognition That Christ Is Lord — Not Just Savior
Many want Jesus as:
✔ Forgiver
✔ Helper
✔ Protector
✔ Provider
But not as **Master**.
Yet Scripture never divides who Christ is. He is not Savior *or* Lord. He is **Savior *because* He is Lord.** He did not save us so we could remain in control. He saved us **to rule our lives with righteousness, wisdom, and love.** This is why salvation is described as:
📖 **“…denying ungodliness and worldly lusts… and living soberly, righteously, and godly…” — Titus 2:12**
Surrender is not losing freedom — It is discovering it.
- Surrender Requires the Death of Self-Will
True surrender is costly. It confronts the deepest idol: **ourselves.**
- Our desires.
- Our opinions.
- Our pride.
- Our expectations.
- Our habits.
- Our comfort.
Jesus makes this clear:
📖 **“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23**
Self-denial is not self-hatred. It is recognizing: “My will cannot lead me to life. God’s will must govern my life.” The cross is the symbol of surrender — not sentimentality.
- Surrender Is the Mark of a True Disciple
The world teaches autonomy. Jesus teaches surrender. The world teaches “follow your heart.” Jesus teaches “follow Me.” The world teaches “live your truth.” Jesus teaches “I am the Truth.” This is why discipleship is impossible without surrender. A disciple is someone who:
✔ sits under Christ’s authority
✔ submits to Christ’s teaching
✔ imitates Christ’s character
✔ obeys Christ’s commands
✔ yields to Christ’s pruning
Surrender is the evidence that a heart has truly been regenerated. A person who has been made new *wants* to obey the One who made them new.
- Surrender Is Not One Moment — It Is a Daily Yes
Salvation happens in a moment. Sanctification happens over a lifetime. Surrender is the bridge between the two. Every day the flesh demands its way. Every day the Spirit calls us higher. Surrender says:
- “Not my will today. Yours.”
- “Not my anger today. Yours.”
- “Not my bitterness today. Yours.”
- “Not my decisions today. Yours.”
- “Not my agenda today. Yours.”
This is why Paul writes:
📖 **“I die daily.” — 1 Corinthians 15:31**
The surrendered heart does not fight God’s will — It yields to it.
- Surrender Is Not Loss — It Is Gain
The enemy whispers: “Saying yes to God means giving up everything.”
Christ declares: “Saying yes to Me gives you *more* than you could ever gain alone.”
Surrender brings:
✔ peace
✔ purpose
✔ identity
✔ direction
✔ protection
✔ transformation
✔ intimacy with God
Jesus explains:
📖 **“Whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” — Matthew 16:25**
The surrendered life is the only life where the believer actually lives.
- Saying “Yes, Lord” Is the Christian Life Summed Up
Not just for salvation — But for:
- relationships
- decisions
- suffering
- obedience
- calling
- spiritual growth
- trials
- direction
- conviction
- worship
“YES, LORD” is the anthem of a transformed heart. The believer surrendered to Christ says:
- “Where You lead — I follow.”
- “What You command — I obey.”
- “What You forbid — I avoid.”
- “What You promise — I trust.”
- “What You reveal — I embrace.”
This is not bondage. This is freedom. Because surrender places us in the hands of the only One worthy to rule us.
Conclusion: Surrender Is the Seal of a Heart God Has Made New
A heart that has truly repented, Truly believed, And truly been regenerated
WILL…
**surrender.**
The Holy Spirit produces a “Yes” in the soul.
- Not perfection —
- But direction.
- Not instant maturity —
- But ongoing obedience.
Surrender is not how we earn salvation. It is how salvation expresses itself. This is the cry of the redeemed:
- “Yes, Lord.”
- “Yes to Your will.
- Yes to Your way.
- Yes to Your Word.
- Yes for the rest of my life.”
